Now that for those of you that don't know, I am not one for attention to detail therefore it lands me in a situation where my boyfriend Derek is off to South Africa a day before myself. So now I am boarding a plane with absolutely no idea of what I am doing.
My first plane was off to London Heathrow. I found my seat with a young English girl dressed to the 9's sitting in my seat... she does know this is a 9 hour flight right? Your white dress isn't going to be so comfortable with your white shoes right? But to each their own. I told her she was sitting in my seat (which is an aisle seat, I deliberatly went on and checked in early so I wouldn't end up with a shit house seat) She was applaud that i would even comment on this. She moved over and then stood up and was mouthing words to someone in the cabin ahead and pointing at me... I was thinking is this girl nuts?? I asked her if she wanted to get out and yup she took that opportunity almost falling into my lap before I had the chance to sit up and let her out. She came back shortly after and asked me if I could move seats so her friend could sit next to her, all while explaining that the seat her Friend was in was exactly like mine. LIAR LIAR LIAR. I got to the seat after not even really giving it much thought as I wanted to get away from the phsyco. Guess what, I was now to enjoy my 9 hour flight with the bathroom door right behind me and this weird couple that had stuffed animals they where holding on to... they where in their early 20s. But you know what not once did they ask to get up or anything so I would take them over the crazy chick any day.
So here goes my lovely plane ride with the bathroom door swinging back and forward... All freaking night long. I decided to take a sleeping pill, that worked for about 2 hours. So lets pop 4 melatonin. Yup that worked for another 2 hours. So by the time I got to Heathrow I was a cracked out tired junky who felt like both of her eyes had been punched out.
Upon arriving I felt like I needed proper food as Lemon grass curry on the plane made me want to throw up all over that couples stuffed bear.
I purchased a salad and smoother from the nearest restaurant, after doing my exchange rate my salad cost me $32 Canadian. It was wilted and just so delicious. not.
My flight to South Africa from there wasn't nearly as terrible but I planned my sleeping for Cape Town when they were awake and then asleep so by the time I got to Cape Town I wasn't that cracked out anymore.
I literally flew threw immigration, it was probably the fastest shit Ive ever experienced next to Mexico, where you basically walk off the plane.
Derek was late to pick me up as always, so here I am standing in the lobby holding onto my bags as if someone was going to come up to me and rip them out of my hands, my Mother put the fear of God into me, explaining that they will cut the straps of your hand bags and take off and you wont know what hit you. COOL thanks MOM.
My firt thoughts driving down the highway you see a lot of "construction workers" doing a whole lotta nothing. The highway is lined with these barbwire fences to keep people out but then there a whole built into the fence which then doesn't make sense. Once approaching the estate you have to pass through security which is great because you feel very safe here.
On the way to Jackie's, Table Mountain |
We are staying with my cousin Jackie and her husband Simon and daughter Megan. Their house is absolutely stunning I couldn't believe the view she has of Table Mountain.
This is outside Jackie's house:

I spent the afternoon with my cousin Leith who also had just arrived from Vancouver, Derek and little Megan. We had lunch in Muizenberg right on the ocean and it was the first time I had ever had grilled calamari and it was delicious, way better then the deep fried crap we get at home.
Here are a few pictures:
After our afternoon, my eyes literally felt like they where falling to the ground. Derek said I was starting to resemble a Chinese person as my eyes slowly came together. We had a delicious braai (South African BBQ) with lamb chops, boerewors (sasuage) and chicken wings. My aunty Barbra came with her little cute wiener dog Missy.
The South African government let me experience my first "black out" where they turn off electricity in certain areas for a time to preserve energy, ours happened to be from 8pm-10pm so that ended my night and Derek and Leith had a night out in town and then they came and woke me up because they thought it was a great idea to go swimming at 1am. JERKS!!!
Megan this a fantastic idea. You're so funny. You should become a journalist. Have your own column!
